About The Barn Door

Our History as the Oldest Steakhouse in San Antonio

About Us

A San Antonio Tradition for Over 70 Years

“At The Barn Door, top quality is a tradition.”

Our History

For more than 72 years, The Barn Door has been a cornerstone of the San Antonio dining scene. Located in Alamo Heights, TX, we’re proud to be recognized as the oldest steakhouse in San Antonio, welcoming generations of families, friends, and visitors with hearty Texas meals and true Southern hospitality.

From the moment you step inside, you’ll feel the warmth and charm that have made us a local favorite. With checkered tablecloths, rustic wood beams, and classic Texas ranch-style decor, The Barn Door offers a cozy and comfortable setting for any occasion. We serve perfectly grilled steaks, fresh seafood, homestyle sides, and house-made desserts that keep guests coming back.

A Legacy of Flavor and Texas Hospitality

Our story is rooted in tradition. We focus on serving home-cooked meals with friendly service that makes everyone feel like part of the family. While San Antonio has grown and changed over the decades, The Barn Door has stayed true to what matters most: good food and great people.

Whether you're craving a juicy ribeye, fresh Gulf catch, or just a slice of our famous pie, every dish is made with care and served with pride. We believe in offering quality meals in a laid-back atmosphere that makes everyone feel right at home.

More Than a Steakhouse

We are more than just a San Antonio steak house. We’re part of the Alamo Heights community. For over seven decades, families have made us part of their milestones and memories. From weekday lunches to anniversary dinners, we’re honored to be a place people count on.

In addition to our restaurant, we offer a full-service Meat Market where guests can purchase our signature cuts to enjoy at home. We also provide some of the most versatile event spaces in San Antonio, perfect for private dining, celebrations, or corporate gatherings.
